Storing Observations and Notes with Canvas

Canvas is a workspace inside DoReveal that lets you collect, organize, and refine the insights you generate through Chat.
As you work through your analysis - creating themes, personas, tables, summaries, journey maps, and more - you'll often uncover insights you want to keep. Instead of leaving these scattered across multiple chats, Canvas provides a single place where you can save, structure, and export your work.

Currently the canvas is only accessible by it's author and is not shared across the team. This has been done to prevent people accidentally overriding each other's work.

Canvas lives inside the Chat interface and works like a simplified document editor. You can add content directly from any chat, edit it freely, and export it as a Word file when you’re ready to share it with colleagues or include it in your report.

Opening Canvas

  1. Open any study and navigate to the Chat view.
  2. On the right side of the screen, click the Canvas icon
  3. A panel will open showing a list of all canvases associated with this study.
  4. If you don't have any canvases yet, click Create Canvas to start your first one.

Creating a Canvas

When creating a new canvas, you have two options:

1. Start with a blank canvas
Give your canvas a name and begin writing immediately.

2. Copy and Paste a template (Word document)
This is especially useful for report outlines, personas, or standard deliverables your team uses.

Working Inside a Canvas

Canvas behaves like a lightweight document editor. You can:

  • Add and edit text
  • Create headings
  • Insert bullet or numbered lists
  • Add and format tables
  • Move or delete sections
  • Adjust spacing and structure as you like
Canvas is not intended to replace Microsoft Word or Notion, but rather to give you an easy, integrated way to capture insights during analysis - without breaking your workflow.

Adding Content From Chat to Canvas

As you work in Chat, any response you generate can be added to Canvas.

To add something from Chat:
  1. Hover your mouse over any Chat response
  2. Click "Add ➞"
  3. The content will appear instantly in your open canvas
  4. Edit it freely - change wording, remove lines, restructure the text, etc.

You can add:

  • Text summaries
  • Lists and bullet points
  • Tables
  • Quotes and citations
  • Charts generated by Chat

Adding entire sections

For theme outputs or structured analyses, you can also:

  • Add content item-by-item
  • Or add an entire section at once using the section heading’s  "Add ➞" option

Creating Multiple Canvases

You can create as many canvases as you need within a study.

Common use cases include:

  • A canvas for your main report
  • Another for personas
  • Another for stakeholder summaries
  • Another for brainstorming or exploratory notes

Switching between canvases is instant.

Use Canvas anytime you want to:

  • Capture insights while analyzing
  • Build a structured report as you go
  • Avoid hunting through multiple chats
  • Collaborate more easily with colleagues
  • Maintain a clean, shareable record of your research output

Canvas keeps your analysis organized, centralized, and exportable.
