Observation Grid
The Observation Grid in Reveal provides a structured format for organizing and analyzing qualitative research data. This format is similar to what researchers may already use in Google Sheets or Excel, making it intuitive and easy to navigate.
In this view, participants are listed as columns, while research questions appear as rows. Each cell contains AI-generated observations that summarize participant responses to a specific research question. Key features include:
1. Viewing Observations
- Each cell contains a synthesized observation related to the corresponding participant and research question.
- A confidence score indicates how strongly the AI associates the observation with the question.
- Clicking Expand provides additional details.
- Clicking View Source Transcript allows you to trace the observation back to the original evidence.
2. Editing and Customizing Observations
- If you disagree with an AI-generated observation or wish to add your own insights, you can edit the cell.
- You can add notes, remove AI-generated text, or modify existing content for full control over the data.
3. Adding New Research Questions
- As you analyze data, you may have follow-up questions. To explore deeper insights:
- Click Add Research Question and enter a new question.
- Reveal will process all participant responses and generate new observations.
- Within seconds, the updated grid will display synthesized responses, including automated similarity and difference analysis across participants.
- Reveal also suggests potential research questions based on topics detected in interviews.
- Simply click a suggested question to add it to the grid.
- You can modify these questions or add multiple at once.
4. Managing Large Studies with Views
For studies with many participants and questions, Reveal provides custom views to streamline analysis:
Creating and Using Views
- Views allow you to focus on specific participants, research questions, or themes.
- You can switch between different saved views to customize your analysis.
Customizing a View
- Click Customize to modify your study view.
- You can:
- Reorder research questions (drag and drop).
- Show or hide questions as needed.
- Rearrange or filter participants to focus on specific groups.
- Save the updated view or create a new view with specific filters.
For example, you can create separate views for Doctors and EMTs to analyze their responses independently.
Switching Between Views
- Once saved, views can be quickly accessed through the dropdown menu.
- This allows for easy comparisons across different groups without altering the original dataset.
