Introducing Canvas: A Smarter Way to Capture Insights as You Analyze

Published: 20 days ago, by Alok Jain

We're excited to introduce Canvas, a new workspace inside the DoReveal Chat experience that helps researchers collect, refine, and organize insights as they emerge - without switching tools or losing context.

Canvas fills a gap between analysis and deliverables. It gives you a lightweight, flexible space to gather what matters most during analysis and assemble it into something you can take forward.

Why Canvas Exists

Researchers told us that the hardest part of analysis isn't running queries or generating summaries - it's the synthesis stage:

  • Organizing the key insights
  • Keeping track of supporting evidence
  • Moving pieces into the right structure
  • Preparing what will eventually become a report, brief, or presentation

Canvas removes this friction by giving you a focused space connected directly to your Chat analyses - so you can curate findings, add observations, and build your narrative as you go.

How Canvas Works

Here's a walkthrough of what Canvas enables inside DoReveal:

1. A Workspace Connected to Your Analysis

From any Chat conversation, you can open the Canvas panel and create a new workspace. Start with a blank page or upload  a template.

Canvas provides a clean, simple writing surface - enough structure to organize your thinking, but intentionally lightweight so your focus stays on insights, not formatting.

2. Add Insights from Chat with One Click

The key to Canvas is how seamlessly it integrates with your Chat results.

As you run different analyses - whether it's themes, summaries, quotes, sentiment views, tables, ladders, or anything else - each unit in your Chat output gives you an "Add to Canvas" option.

Click it, and that piece instantly appears inside your Canvas.

Even better:
Canvas automatically includes all the evidence associated with that insight. If an item in Chat had linked quotes or participant references, those details are brought along for you - so you never have to track supporting evidence manually.

3. Bring Over Any Type of Output

You can add:

  • A single insight
  • A quote
  • A chart
  • A table
  • A summary block
  • A comparison view
  • Or an entire section of your Chat output

You're not limited to any predefined structure or content type. If Chat produced it, you can bring it into Canvas.

4. Continue Writing and Shaping Your Findings

Inside Canvas, you can:

  • Write your own notes and reflections
  • Add context and interpretation
  • Restructure sections
  • Adjust text
  • Reorder items you pulled in from Chat

Combine your thinking with the system's analyses. Canvas is a decision-making and synthesis space.

5. Use Templates to Stay Organized

If your team uses consistent structures - like a summary framework, an executive brief outline, or a coding schema - you can upload the templates and start any Canvas from them.

6. Switch Between Multiple Canvases

You can maintain as many canvases as you need:

  • One for early exploration
  • Another for a working draft
  • Another for a final summary
  • Or separate canvases for different angles of the same project

Switch between them instantly depending on where you are in the process.

7. Export to Word When You're Ready

When your Canvas has taken shape, you can download it as a Word file to continue polishing in whatever tool your team prefers.

Charts come through as images, text remains editable, and evidence stays organized beneath the insights that use it.

Canvas isn't meant to replace your final writing tool - but to make sure you enter that phase with a coherent, well-supported foundation.

Canvas helps researchers:

✔ Capture important insights at the moment they emerge
✔ Avoid the copy/paste overhead across tools
✔ Keep evidence linked and organized automatically
✔ Maintain momentum during analysis
✔ Move from raw findings to a first structured draft much faster

It's a focused space for synthesis - connected to the richness of your qualitative data and the power of DoReveal's analysis tools.
